Okay…if you want to faint from pure ooey gooey apple crisp bliss, try this recipe on for size. But don’t blame me if you get kissed, hugged and squeezed after making and serving this to friends and loved ones. (Be careful, don’t give any to the mean lady next door)
I developed this for a real estate client who said his favorite dessert is apple crisp. I hope he likes it. We’re closing on his house tomorrow. Maybe this will make his day even sweeter.
: Ooey Gooey Apple Crisp Bars
- For Crunchy Streusel Topping (Make this first)
- 3/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 stick cold butter (cut into small pieces)
- For Crust
- 1 Classic yellow cake mix
- 1 large egg
- 1 stick melted butter
- For Filling
- 2 (20 oz) cans apple pie filling
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Baking Pan = 9X13 inch
- Butter baking pan (or spray with PAM) and preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Make streusel topping by mixing all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Cut butter in with your fingers and continue to rub in dry mixture until you have pea size particles.
- Make crust by mixing all ingredients together (batter will be stiff). Pat mixture evenly into bottom of pan.
- Put both cans of apple pie filling on top of crust and spread it out as even as possible.
- Drizzle can of sweetened condensed milk over apples and sprinkle all with cinnamon.
- Top with streusel mix (yes…all of it).
- Bake for 35 – 40 minutes. Allow to cool completely then cut into 24 pieces. If you cant wait, that’s okay too. Use a spoon.
- Serve with a dollop of fresh whipped cream or ice cream.
