North College Hill Bakery – Cincinnati’s Crown Jewel

by Laraine Shape - The Cincinnati Real Estate Lady

Ever feel like you’ve just died and gone to heaven?

That’s exactly how you’ll feel when you step inside the North College Hill Bakery, Cincinnati’s crown jewel of old fashioned bakeries. It’s pure sweet tooth heaven.

You must go there. IMMEDIATELY!

Talk about olfactory delights. They could charge 50 cents a “sniff” and get away with it.

The pastry shop is a throwback to the days when your mom would send you up to the corner bakery for a loaf of bread, a dozen donuts and a free sugar cookie from the bakery lady. Sigh. I miss those days, don’t you?

It’s been a successful family operation for 75 years and once you bite into their cherry cheese strudel or shove your mug into a chocolate frosted cake doughnut, you’ll understand why. Let’s hope they’re still here in another 75 years.

The bakery’s rainbow-frosted thumbprint cookies are legendary and each child who visits the bakery gets one. Not sure if being a child at heart counts…but hey, don’t be shy. Just ask one of the bakery ladies.

Gasp! How do you pick? They all look so good! Eeny, meeny, miney moe...

This is what it looks like behind the display case. Isn't it a beautiful view?

The famous thumb print cookies with rainbow-colored frosting.

Every day is a party at the North College Hill Bakery!

I just love bakery ladies...don't you?

Is that a creme horn sitting next to that German chocolate cake?

Another beautiful bakery lady. Don't you just want to hug her?

My knees are getting weak. I just might faint.

Crispy, flaky, cinnamon-sugar coated elephant ears - baked fresh today.

Is that cherry strudel? Is some of that coming home with me?

Is there room in my bag for that cockeyed loaf of butter crust bread?

Did you say cherry cheese danish? Be still my heart!

Pretty sure that piece has my name written on it.
