Ooh la la! Isn’t she gorgeous? All round, curvy and looking like she just stepped out of the kitchen you grew up in.
Remember that small, ice-cold bottle of Coca Cola your mom would hide in the very back of her?
Behind the meat, milk and dish of red Jell-O. The one she’d “discover” for you when you needed it more than anything in the world?
Aahh! Thanks, mom. You are one gorgeous hunk of junk!
Or check out this hot momma! She can make fried chicken so crispy and good it will bring tears to your eyes. And Thanksgiving turkey, all brown and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside…smelling so good you could practically faint.
And sugar cookies…how about those big, puffy sugar cookies you couldn’t wait to bite into after school.
Well, guess what? You can find these and other fabulous retro appliances plus lots of other gorgeous “hunks of junk” at Mercene’s Gorgeous Hunk of Junk store in downtown Lebanon at 27 Mulberry Street. Antique collectors, retro decorators, restaurant owners, bargain hunters and junk pickers are all welcome!
It’s literally filled to the gills with everything imaginable…from “new to antiques and everything in between” as proprietors Kathy Axiotes and Anitsa Zalants like to say (daughter’s of the late and much-loved Mercene Karkadoulias). It’s a delicious blend of antique, estate and thrift store all rolled in to one without the pretense that antique stores often carry or the grunge of thrift stores. And things change frequently. Old stuff is sold and new stuff is brought in.
But best of all, the owners are friendly, interesting to talk to and the kind of people that are just plain nice to know.
Check out more pictures here GORGEOUS HUNK OF JUNK to see if they’ve got your gorgeous hunk of junk…but stay away from that gigantic, vintage butcher block on the floor. When I find space for it and a giant lumberjack to carry it out for me I intend to use it for rolling out those big, puffy sugar cookies…for chopping my fresh basil and for cooling cakes, ooey gooey bars and maybe a pie or two.
And be sure to regularly visit Hunk of Junk’s facebook page so you can keep your eye on the new stuff that comes in.
